SORA Card
A Mastercard debit card with European IBAN inside a self-custodial DeFi wallet
SORA Card is a Mastercard-powered debit card with a European IBAN and SEPA transfers, integrated into the self-custodial SORA Wallet. Launched in 2023, it was a genuinely novel product: a non-custodial DeFi wallet with a built-in decentralized exchange AND traditional banking rails, all in the palm of your hand.
The Challenge
Nothing else on the market combined all of that. The design challenge was bridging two fundamentally different mental models, crypto self-custody and traditional banking, into one coherent experience without compromising either.
The card had to feel as trustworthy as a neobank and as sovereign as a hardware wallet. Onboarding carried the heaviest load: KYC requirements from the banking side meeting users who chose self-custody specifically to avoid intermediaries. Careful UX writing and progressive disclosure kept both worlds intact.
Rollout
SORA Card launched inside SORA Wallet and was eventually integrated into Polkaswap and Fearless Wallet as well, reaching across the full product family.
